Miss South Carolina on Miss Teen USA

August 28th, 2007 | Category: Uncategorized

Heard this on a talk show yesterday morning and its hilarious and embarrassing at the same time!

video here

Q. “Why can’t a fifth of Americans find the United States on a map?”

A. “I personally believe that US Americans are unable to do so because some people out there in our nation don’t have maps and I believe that our education like such as south Africa and the Iraq and everywhere like such as and I believe that they should our education over here in the US should help the US or should help south Africa and should help the Iraq and the Asian countries so we will be able to build up our future.”

Hmm..so Iraq and south africa are part of the US now? Maybe thats why they can’t find the US on the map…they’re looking at the WRONG part of the globe!!! Someone should arrest her Geography and English teachers and such as and such as…

Time to finally cut the military budget and spend more on education? such as…such as..

So much for nearing the end of the High-def war…

August 21st, 2007 | Category: tech talk

Thank paramount and dreamworks for just prolonging the high def war between Blu-ray and HD dvd by deciding to go exclusively HD Dvd. Their reason? Lower cost players and lower manufacturing?

Hmm….since when does a studio care about how much $$ consumers will save by buying a lower cost player? ($299 for HD dvd vs $499 for blu-ray) Especially since blu-ray disc sales are kicking HD dvds ass to kingdom come? The movie 300 came out in both blu-ray and hd dvd and even though the hd dvd had more extra content (that content will be added to a future blu-ray release of the movie), blu-ray outsold HD dvd 2 to 1. So why ditch the LEADING format in the hi-def war for hd dvd?

Answer: HD dvd backers reportedly gave paramount $50 million and dreamworks $100 million in return for this exclusive deal for the next 18 months.

Interesting fact 1: Steven Spielberg is a supporter of blu-ray and his movies are not covered by this deal. Think his first blu-ray movie will be out by the end of the year.

Interesting fact 2: Michael Bay (director of transformers) made a post on his official forum expressing his anger over paramounts decision in choosing HD dvd. These comments were later removed from the forum.

So who does this deal hurt? The consumers! Just creates uncertainty in the market just when everything was pointing at blu-ray as the victor.

Life in the 56Kbps lane

August 21st, 2007 | Category: web

So moved last weekend and earthlink said that it’ll take 10 to 15 business days to relocate my dsl service. Until then they were going to provide me with unlimited dial up service….yup UNLIMITED 56Kbps! Now thats the stuff dreams are made of!

=0(

Can’t imagine how I managed to get by with 56Kbps back in the day. To make things worse I don’t think any websites are optimized for dial up anymore (since more and more people have broadband connections) so even checking email takes minutes and not milliseconds.

So how did I manage to survive the last few days on dial up? Well luckily my neighbor’s wireless network is unsecured =0) so I’ve been bumming his connection. I should bake him a cake or something…or replace his old doormat =0)

Going river rafting this sunday…can’t wait….would rather be scuba diving but anything that involves water is OK with me!

Good Music = Speeding Ticket

August 15th, 2007 | Category: coldplay, music

“Officer, Angels and Airwaves made me speed! I couldn’t control myself as soon as I put one of their songs on”

Hmm think that excuse will work with a cop? IT SHOULD because thats the truth lol. Everytime I put a good song on, I feel inclined to step on the gas and weave in and out of lanes to beat traffic.

Heres some songs I speed to:

Angels and Airwaves “Start the machine”
Coldplay “Politik (live version)”
Coldplay ”
Angels and Airwaves “Valkyrie Missile”
Fort Minor “Right Now”
For Minor ” Slip out the back”
Diddy “Thought you said”
Fort Minor “Remember the name”
Angels and Airwaves “A little’s Enough”
Kanye West “Stronger”
Timbaland “Apologize”

I could easily list the entire Angels and Airwaves album under that heading because they all have the same effect lol.
“now th- that don’t kill me
can only make me stronger”

See…Kanye himself is promoting speeding!

“Yes Officer, I promise to listen to crappy music to curb my speeding. New 50 cent album? Yeah that should do the trick!”

We do our best when we’re at our worst

August 14th, 2007 | Category: thoughts

Just got to work. While I was driving I was listening to some new songs/albums that I downloaded in the last 2 days. Was listening to an artist I used to like..expected at least some tracks filled with anger, but expressed creatively….but what I got was a bunch of pop-ish tracks….was wondering why she chose that direction for this album…when I realized that I may have read something about her getting married….so I guess shes too happy to write the kind of songs she used to? Too content to make a better effort? Skipped her album and started listening to a newer artist…he had more to prove..and I could feel that in the way he sang every word of every song.

That got me thinking about human nature (sometimes its a surprise I’m even able to drive anywhere because I’m so deep in thought most of the time) . Is there a relationship between how good our work  is and the where we are in life (in terms of successes and failures)? I think there is…from personal experience I think I’m at my best, when I’m down, when things aren’t going my way..its that hunger to succeed when your at the bottom…like a starving wolf sizing up its next prey, waiting for the perfect time to pounce, knowing that the outcome could mean the difference between life and death…that brings out the best in us. We have more to prove, nothing to lose and everything to gain.

What do you think?

Bullet by mat kearney

Yesterday I was sitting. recalling. reminiscing
Trying to remember whenever there was nobody listening
Before the hugging and the kissing, the booing and the hissing
All I had was just a vision,
All I had was my ambition
Your love without condition
Kept me swinging when I’m missing
My eyes upon the prize
Kept me striving for the mission
When I was down for the count, falling out of commission
I can hear you voice now screaming out “son, listen”
Get on up, don’t give up, though you struck opposition
Time to buck all that stuff, find out what’s you condition
Like a pull in my soul, like keys in my ignition
Call you all my commission, my love and my vision and…”

Love those lyrics.  Its sad that artists who write lyrics with that much substance will never be as popular as dumbass artists who write lyrics like “this is why i’m hot..i’m hot coz your not” and end up in the top 10 of charts.  Another sign that theres something wrong with the world today?

Can you imagine what aliens from outer space would think if  they got a hold of songs off the top 10 charts? They’d think we all just drive around with 20 inch dubs, shoot each other, just care about bling bling,  treat women like toys for pleasure and get high.
